Dancing with creation, curiosity leading the way, Chelsea’s work is grounded on earth, while also evoking other worlds. She is inspired by personal and collective nostalgia, desert landscapes, feminine formlessness and form. Her curiosity in the creative act is inexhaustible, and therefore her style of exploration on canvas is frequently changing. Chelsea draws from her life as a dancer within her work, and the movement on canvas is a reflection of a physical practice and understanding of life through this lens. Growing up in the northeast, the suggestion of raw landscape is a recurring theme, even in her abstract works. Nature is her vehicle to understand emotional experiences, the higher power we cannot see, and all that is ineffable within the human experience. This is anchored on canvas through human form, scenes as the sun changes the sky, and how we position ourselves to this daily beauty.
